{"id":1507,"date":"2015-06-02T01:51:06","date_gmt":"2015-06-02T08:51:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.plm.automation.siemens.com\/t5\/Tecnomatix-News\/3D-Party-the-fun-in-Innovation\/ba-p\/302037"},"modified":"2026-03-26T06:57:51","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T10:57:51","slug":"3d-party-the-fun-in-innovation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/tecnomatix\/3d-party-the-fun-in-innovation\/","title":{"rendered":"3D Party \u2013 the fun in Innovation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P>As an innovative company, we\u2019re pushing hard to find different ways to do things better, and, better ways to do things differently.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>In the last couple of years, we switched to Agile, have run several <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.plm.automation.siemens.com\/t5\/Tecnomatix-News\/What-the-heck-is-a-Hackathon\/ba-p\/19785\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hackathons<\/A> and we\u2019ve registered a good number of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.plm.automation.siemens.com\/t5\/PLM-World-Discussion-Forum\/At-Siemens-PLM-We-re-Patently-Innovative\/m-p\/282869\/highlight\/true#M52\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">patents<\/A>. So what\u2019s next, you ask? So did CEO Zvi Feuer, when he talked to the Innovation team. He told them he wants to turn the workers into \u2018makers\u2019! For starters, he suggested, let\u2019s get a build-it-yourself kit, and have everyone join in assembling a\u2026&nbsp; 3D Printer! Team head, Tali Segall, team member Moshe Schwimmer and the rest of the innovators wanted to use this as a chance to give the employees experience with some of the 3D technologies they\u2019ve been checking out lately. So they came up with the idea of a hands-on exhibition &#8211; a \u201c3D Party\u201d with booths offering interesting, cool activities based on newer <a title=\"3D Scan to CAD\" href=\"https:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/global\/en\/challenges\/3d-scan-to-cad.html\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">3D technologies<\/A>.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>All the SPLM Israel employees who streamed into the big cafeteria last Wednesday morning were entertained, fascinated and had some fun.&nbsp; In one corner, a team of 5 or 6 workers collaborated to put together the 3D printer, bit by plastic bit. This took a number of hours, so the team members kept changing, giving many a chance to assemble the large device.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-inline\" style=\"width: 999px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2019\/09\/3DPrinter-comp-1.png\" alt=\"3DPrinter-comp.png\" title=\"3DPrinter-comp.png\" \/><\/span><\/P><br \/>\n<P>Here are some of the 3D experience stations that drew us in:<\/P><br \/>\n<UL><br \/>\n<LI><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leapmotion.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Leap Motion<\/A>&nbsp;\u2013 An infrared sensor scanned our hands moving and gesturing, and interpreted the movements into commands on the computer screen, replacing mouse and keyboard.<\/LI><br \/>\n<\/UL><br \/>\n<P>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-inline\" style=\"width: 222px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2019\/09\/LeapGesture-1.jpg\" width=\"222\" height=\"393\" alt=\"LeapGesture.jpg\" title=\"LeapGesture.jpg\" \/><\/span><\/P><br \/>\n<UL><br \/>\n<LI>3D Viewing &#8211; A section of a manufacturing area was rendered in a densely dispersed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bentley.com\/en-US\/Promo\/Pointools\/pointools.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\">point cloud<\/A> in Process Simulate. Putting on stereo glasses, we experienced the factory floor and equipment jump out into the 3D space in front of us.<\/LI><br \/>\n<\/UL><br \/>\n<P>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-inline\" style=\"width: 221px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2019\/09\/StereoGlasses-1.jpg\" width=\"221\" height=\"332\" alt=\"StereoGlasses.JPG\" title=\"StereoGlasses.JPG\" \/><\/span><\/P><br \/>\n<UL><br \/>\n<LI>Motion Capture \u2013 Standing in front of a PC loaded with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xbox.com\/en-US\/xbox-one\/accessories\/kinect-for-xbox-one\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\">Kinect<\/A>, we could see our body movements immediately copied by a virtual Human in Process Simulate.<\/LI><br \/>\n<LI><a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/glass\/distribute\/glass-at-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\">Google Glass<\/A> \u2013 Donning the Google Glass, we took a picture of the area and then gazed at a QR code to upload the picture to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/products\/tecnomatix\/intosite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\">Intosite<\/A> as a new placemark.<\/LI><br \/>\n<\/UL><br \/>\n<P>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-inline\" style=\"width: 218px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2019\/09\/GoogleGlass-QRcode-3.jpg\" width=\"218\" height=\"328\" alt=\"GoogleGlass-QRcode.JPG\" title=\"GoogleGlass-QRcode.JPG\" \/><\/span><\/P><br \/>\n<UL><br \/>\n<LI><a href=\"http:\/\/www.intel.com\/content\/www\/us\/en\/architecture-and-technology\/realsense-overview.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\">RealSense<\/A> \u2013 We sat down in front of a small camera which scanned our faces. After a minute of processing, our 3D face was fused onto an animated figure \u2013 knight, princess, skier. As the character moved and tilted, our own face, with all its profiles, moved exactly in sync. A raffle was held, and the 2 winners will receive a 3D printed mask of their facial scan!<\/LI><br \/>\n<\/UL><br \/>\n<P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-inline\" style=\"width: 823px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2019\/09\/Amar-composite-1.png\" alt=\"Amar-composite.png\" title=\"Amar-composite.png\" \/><\/span><\/P><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Calibri\" size=\"3\" color=\"#000000\">(You can also read about our subsequent&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.plm.automation.siemens.com\/t5\/Tecnomatix-News\/Invasion-of-the-3D-Printers\/ba-p\/302494\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3D Printer happening<\/A>.)<\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Calibri\" size=\"3\" color=\"#000000\">\u201cSo\u201d, I asked Moshe, \u201cwhat did we achieve here today?\u201d \u201cWell\u201d, he told me, \u201cbesides the fact that everyone got to enjoy a nice ice cream on a stick, a lot of us were involved in building the 3D printer. And also, by circulating between the stations, people engaged with new technologies and brainstormed additional innovative uses. And we saw the fruits of collaboration between external startups and ourselves. It was a consciousness raiser about the new things going on out there.
