{"id":4673,"date":"2020-03-23T10:58:42","date_gmt":"2020-03-23T14:58:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/teamcenter\/?p=4673"},"modified":"2026-03-26T08:49:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T12:49:07","slug":"new-bom-management-capabilities-in-active-workspace-4-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/teamcenter\/new-bom-management-capabilities-in-active-workspace-4-3\/","title":{"rendered":"New BOM Management Capabilities in Active Workspace 4.3"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We have made significant enhancements to our assembly-based BOM management capabilities&nbsp;in Active Workspace 4.3.&nbsp; We have added features and improved usability so that Active Workspace can be the tool of choice for any user:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>for consumers looking for\nBOM information quickly<\/li><li>for analysts looking for\nadditional insights into their products<\/li><li>and for authors needing\nincreased productivity.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s briefly look at some\nof the new features below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Feature\ncompleteness in Active Workspace<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Active Workspace 4.3 provides additional enhancements in\nassembly management.&nbsp; Many features that\nwere previously available only in the Rich Client are now also available in\nActive Workspace.&nbsp; Active\nWorkspace can now be considered as the primary interface for managing product\nassemblies for many users.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Configuring an Assembly<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You now have increased flexibility when configuring an\nassembly in Active Workspace.&nbsp; An\nassembly can be configured by a user-defined revision rule in addition to the\nadmin-defined rules.&nbsp; Active Workspace\nnow supports variant rules defined by classic options and variants in addition\nto those defined by Product Configurator.&nbsp;\nYou can further refine the view of an assembly by setting an active\narrangement or a BOM view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Assembly Editing Capabilities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, in Active Workspace 4.3 there are more efficient assembly\nediting capabilities.&nbsp; An interactive\nduplicate now provides more precise control by allowing the removal and replacement\nof individual occurrences of an item.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The multi-structure view now allows you to switch to a\ndifferent assembly on either side. &nbsp;Secondary\ntabs, such as \u201cOverview\u201d, \u201cWhere Used\u201d, and \u201cRelations\u201d can now be shown for\nboth assemblies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In-context overrides are supported in Active Workspace.&nbsp; You can view overrides that have been\ndefined, and you can set an assembly in context and make any edits to the assembly\nin that context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"973\" height=\"792\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4676\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog1.png 973w, https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog1-600x488.png 600w, https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog1-768x625.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 973px) 100vw, 973px\" \/><figcaption>View and modify Revision Rule details<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BOM Markups\nand Redlines<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In prior releases, you\u2019ve been able to make proposed edits\nto an assembly using markup.&nbsp; In this release, you can now view markups in\na formal change.&nbsp; All markups are automatically tracked within the\nchange.&nbsp; When the change is approved, the markups can get automatically\napplied as edits to the assembly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you view an assembly that is in an active change, the\nsystem automatically displays the assembly in redline mode.&nbsp; Redline mode is where any edit to the current\nworking revision and assembly is shown with font treatments such as\nstrikethrough and color change.&nbsp; Redlined\nedits include occurrence properties such as quantity, sequence, variant\ncondition.&nbsp; And they also include assembly\nedits such as additions, removals, or replacements.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Change scoped markups provides the ability to effectively\ncollaborate by proposing markups on a released BOM where you may not have write\naccess. &nbsp;You can propose changes via BOM\nmarkups in the context of a change and submit for the review process. On\nsuccessful review and approval, all of the proposals can be auto-incorporated\nas solutions by the system performing the necessary BOM operations.&nbsp; You can take advantage of the workflow\ntemplate delivered out-of-the-box and tailor it to suit your business process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"961\" height=\"786\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4677\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog2.png 961w, https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog2-600x491.png 600w, https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog2-768x628.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 961px) 100vw, 961px\" \/><figcaption>Change scoped BOM markups, with redlines<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Usability<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We have continued to improve the usability of the assembly tree\ntable in Active Workspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the table is more visual.&nbsp; Visual indicators make it easier to\nunderstand the state of the assembly.&nbsp;\nSeveral indicators are provided out-of-the-box.&nbsp; You can hover over the indicators to see\nsmart tooltips, which provide more information and access to relevant commands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have improved the responsiveness of assembly configuration.&nbsp; When you change the configuration of an assembly,\nit dynamically updates without reloading the full assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can specify how the tree is expanded by applying\nexpansion rules, also known as closure rules.&nbsp;\nFor example, you can set a rule to skip the components of a purchased\nassembly.&nbsp; We have also made it easier to\nexpand an assembly by allowing you to specify the number of levels to\nauto-expand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"789\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog3-1024x789.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4678\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog3-1024x789.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog3-600x462.png 600w, https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog3-768x591.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog3-1110x855.png 1110w, https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/blog3.png 1131w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Visual Indicators provide more concise information within a BOM table<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As always with Teamcenter, we continue to adapt and advance\nreleasing more capabilities in every release.
