Do we need it?%26docType=pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Model Based Enterprise (MBE)<\/a> initiatives in their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/products\/teamcenter\/design-data-management\/multicad.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">MCAD and Multi-CAD design management<\/a> environments. Traditionally, these initiatives involved processes for the management, control, release and exchange of 3D models and Product Manufacturing Information (PMI).<\/p>\n<p>Organizations such as INCOSE, NIST, MBE.org and others define MBE as having seven levels of maturity, or gates to success:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><i><em><u>Level 0:<\/u><\/em> Drawings centric \u2013 Primary deliverable: 2D Drawings<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><em><u>Level 1:<\/u><\/em> Model centric \u2013 Primary deliverable: 2D Drawing and neutral CAD model<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0<em><u>Level 2:<\/u><\/em> Model centric \u2013 Primary deliverable: 2D Drawing and native CAD model<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><i><em><u>Level 3:<\/u><\/em> Model based definition \u2013 Primary deliverable: 3D annotated model and light-weight viewable<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><em><u>Level 4:<\/u><\/em> Model based definition \u2013 Primary deliverable: 3D annotated model and light-weight viewable via PDM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><em><u>Level 5:<\/u><\/em> Model based enterprise \u2013 Primary deliverable: Digital product definition package and TDP<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><em><u>Level 6<\/u><\/em>: Model based enterprise \u2013 Primary deliverable: Digital product definition package and TDP via the web<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-right\" style=\"width: 241px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Digital Twin.png\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2019\/09\/Digital-Twin-1.png\" alt=\"Digital Twin.png\" width=\"241\" height=\"218\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-right\" style=\"width: 241px;\"><span class=\"lia-inline-image-caption\">MBE and the Digital Twin<\/span><\/span>As you can see in these levels of maturity there is a big jump from level 2 to 3, which requires moving off of 2D drawings as well as from level 3 to level 4 which entails moving to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/products\/teamcenter\/design-data-management\/multicad.shtml#lightview%26url=\/en_us\/Images\/18955_tcm1023-86807.pdf%26title=Getting Started with Product Data Management White Paper%26description=Companies implement product data management (PDM) systems to provide their diverse and widely dispersed enterprises with a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Product Data Management (PDM)<\/a>. Through each of these levels you can see the product data, or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/about_us\/newsroom\/press\/press_release.cfm?Component=250374&amp;ComponentTemplate=822\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><em>Digital Twin<\/em><\/a> beginning to mature, but since the models evolve, multiple configurations or variants are involved and many stakeholders across the entire value chain add or modify the information throughout the products entire lifecycle, this type of product information on is not enough.<\/p>\n<p>To truly improve productivity and product quality requires the implementation of a Product Lifecycle Management environment that enables an integrated Model Based Enterprise (MBE) approach that not only fully embraces the delivery of Technical Data Packages associated with the Digital Twin, but also connects the processes, procedures and information from across the entire design through delivery value chain referred to as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/about_us\/facts_philosophy\/smart-innovation-portfolio\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><em>Digital Thread<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-left\" style=\"width: 400px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Digital Thread.png\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2019\/09\/Digital-Thread-1.png\" alt=\"Digital Thread.png\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-left\" style=\"width: 400px;\"><span class=\"lia-inline-image-caption\">Digital Thread encompasses the processes<\/span><\/span>Only as companies adopt effective MBE initiatives and mature their digital thread and digital twin capabilities will they be able to improve productivity, increase quality and transform their business processes to achieve greater business value.
