In this first example, we create a shaving razor using synchronous technology.&nbsp;We walk you through creating an initial model that can be altered and changed to allow for several versions of a set of models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Model 1: Double Edge Safety Razor<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In this example, we&#8217;ll model a razor using synchronous technology, with the help of a video demonstration, as well as step-by-step instructions.&nbsp;This model will feature several handle options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls src=\"https:\/\/videos.mentor-cdn.com\/mgc\/videos\/5400\/276f1952-5bd3-435f-957c-343a51ed5026-en-US-video.mp4?stc=wwdi106315\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To begin, let\u2019s create the handle. Begin with a new metric part file saved as Handle 1.&nbsp;To create the model, the initial piece of the handle can be created using the synchronous technology Cylinder command.&nbsp;This allows a single step process instead of creating a sketch and then creating an extrusion that uses that sketch. The smaller part of the handle will have a diameter of 10mm and will be 100mm long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/eLFzYh1q4vyALIKJEY7kkTqLzHqiFWrBTeNrUZpCD-4xYeu-2JhSoyaOy3TdBYTYsjeSuGL4QUCf17FLlkMG45EViVokICifLVakL5ZNWCq5UYZ2XtDArFWWNH1yQdAsea5rnGA\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now draw a circle at the end of the cylinder that has a diameter of 15mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/9bQ7_WFYCnDnyd0v5TSvJEViDMI2BW1fs3G6iGljCI4phhJTxcwPZQjH-9VYa0l-D3qQYdmKr0ylqeBA2R25qRO5QcWhWGhPtbz-L-aNsmqvifF0WWn4Bs2CXjahruu_VxSDrkw\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The closed geometry will create a region.&nbsp;Select the region and extend the body 75mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/qVpG9_JLF5FSSfd7tS7f8NPcb6qHQglExHI7GCnfVLR3-77GONGUOKD3c1zVfZITnLplvHEMTCl5BVkyfKGmB3G1LGNvrbJ9u6wWitm38lEgn6CS9KuS5T4b5t-nseQHo4UtFZo\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The next step is to draw a sketch to use in a Revolved Cutout.&nbsp;The sketch should be drawn on the outer edge of the handle and on the Right plane.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/QqBoQ0POxBit4XGxFCwLhkDYkXUIsQO5KfMiVgZnpG0PuTDJ5kXvwfABLDTYSf8WUK4u5e7_fFTNbo5-GyevY1xAbImx_OS0hdJyLE8Kj7B4Evw3sZSa_ldcsEMeGPIK12a1TyM\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Choose Revolve in the feature group.&nbsp;First, choose the areas that will remove the material.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/JtC1PCasPxHaCJ32mxdKTjjTLfOTuQWqfutshcRfrIF2MZY2ay3MuBwfJBkTVUk4sZN8dmN_vYFAz000-CpJmkJownOO6WvGhDXXmjMQV8dpT2267P2DPn5k5KuQesGnNOuTy_k\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then select the axis of the cylinder as the axis of revolution.&nbsp;Enter 360\u00b0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/DJTXbwyITIaaoQ1SJujRPFnADYAr7UiGBC88Z6ZyQha0fUEtclJDmTHFQGBqzXYZopeAvHktja0KTIlcLd8bxs2TezjG5_5Epe6QzGKlBDTZus1MJWI4RM-3yl-uwyFuvnB35yk\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that the grip of the handle is complete, we can alter the connection end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/xgHtIoCjoV3ROxyhh8jLiQOqwvgLcQrtC5kWcn9QFV_5w7HKS7z6Xk84f5oiWxA9L-j3MAevP02iUmmz_dT4Z2LUPzYSQ3OMitP7eL15TWFmbxag3rVmkolthqOgQLhLUUqI-ZI\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Create a sketch on the center plane of the handle to remove material from both sides of the sketched region.&nbsp;Selecting the region will show the direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/m4hVyj3ChILZ2n5Wfaj8KEp-_yqda--kUB8MfOfrDiga1ddwMC-AxgIuFUauf58DxQI6VY5fQV32One3bqk5aGsXr6xJZ03L8KPSpBfB5TZhvPsUbFXt25qeiHRJKz7-oJhUOhU\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Toggle the symmetric extents button in the command ribbon.&nbsp;Now choosing a direction arrow on the steering wheel will create a cut that removes material evenly from both sides of the sketch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/eeKum3qG1-GQlXP6kNfTHBoAMz9JvxLwhC-UycBIy_7aG2dETJ29ZO5RKGdXaidM-Fk2j-kWexobBZLk52W9Ci5t___CK5hC7S_CuHnJ0WrevTo0fNdlL_oRpYuG2WsWILIbc30\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The removed material will allow us to create the connection end of the handle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/ietSgFqO_gub1c60jr9w2shwxoxEOZ6QyKVhDjX0VvQMWmFZP_aPCe0umwZVStPW0R9PD04Sl589k9PLyiCa-ZBZ_TLEyRcZ0HZyQWlsZVSzpmOfE0zemNoCcYI0NkuV9DxyjyA\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now use the blend tool to add a 1mm radius blend to all edges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/tUHVRsHvH5pZD2aqpOkh9p71G9iALRdWCUSfJtnw2C2D_cRpqUjzpEHW_WxUi1dbKKlXJFKkKneBKhaNYjF5eoHHrYbp0LBRVBPRCLqlBBH6ZXB20E-P2TdE565VYaWeEpAi9Is\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, we will create a cutout to seat the eject button.&nbsp;When pushed, this button will detach the razor head (disposable) from the handle.&nbsp;This button will be a separate part in our assembly. Begin by creating a sketch that is 4mm wide and centered on the shaft.&nbsp;The geometry\u2019s distance from the end of the shaft should be 2mm. The rest of the length is not important, so we won\u2019t waste time locking it down.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/s3q8f7GUZn8ij40iJcF4ZPOCtnTOfA1cfD3Dp8nsAl2RtLoE3Hot-gTtGqPh-ciTeZXrBP3hjr8M0IeMfLLexC7qkEhHGxW-P8e29UCeUPmeOMYOIh1ztzDfFQ1CWjXiWiePH_4\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now choose the region and extend it down 1mm into the piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This completes the first part in our assembly.&nbsp;This file can be saved and closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now create a new metric assembly file and name it Razor.&nbsp;Drag and drop the Handle 1 file into the assembly from the Parts Library tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/pW8S1brOBnCDEe0oL5Zp5xGY2uhrdASVGuwiIs93epMU_D5OeUOanEKOROE-VT8wZDlCdEcrrIoaps9TTJnZZaBJ3KiXwHYcCFKyq-t3pF6V40zgtjIg2SqM1t2IYxEl_Si4LTM\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, use the Create in Place command to place a new metric part file in the assembly.&nbsp;Name it \u201cConnector.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/WCvorGmHaDVsBmKvWvq-_sU8PJ53N_mooBrisDMlfRpphJ-GpznWHVOhpvJVpbp35y5Z3fVNrIQi5KxZ6Rjuz_KLY0QhhA0TrtZJpK5KULkszF1LMP2ALTD5YLT7oCCGlf0JX8Y\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Begin by placing a cylinder on the base coordinate system.&nbsp;Match the 10mm diameter of the handle with a 20mm length.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/jguCn0uTBw86yGWVsdHcmALcafe6WhJ8uVc9LMwhRgKMy8tgvNsgmdQsaRXPd3Zj8OX2MLFegD0AIbk-x2Jj13lUIeppbAEoy_7n6J8ALuph-7n9BwmGKQiOTLmoyO2cFMTfkr0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now we will create a flat in the same location as on the handle.&nbsp;Making sure the Peers button is toggled on in the Tools, Edge Locate group, use Project to sketch to add the line that will be 2mm from the center point of the cylinder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/DtrLstECGacPhmpCZTt0BI9Fz4RgAsRba-Fu6nzU6NiRRLK3kxHTBZa4Cop-JMqXKP8cZeOXgH0rLG06zI6uPUcMB7WvRO7pKyA7eq0yhmV1v-lchFh6zi5-FdwXbszPDtEYkn0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Add a circle on the same plane that is larger than or equal to the 10mm shaft.&nbsp;Choose the created region and use the steering wheel arrow to remove material from the cylinder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/CU1AMsSFL91jSJ8PuJtamRycTTYT2OEoClKhIokz7_oObYxFxqVN8z3XjBs7vjzgtPwK6_3RyMlkcaSw-ciwK-mXI_1OgWH88pCebjVIvvBj8N-xTgbJoJl3vmUUQfzG_vKLA9E\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Because we\u2019re designing this part within the assembly, we know that we\u2019re cutting the correct part of the cylinder.&nbsp;Now add a 1mm blend to the three edges of the cylinder as shown below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/MIEADr_j9TGw2S60xSNqQ4GRqCXfnOoFcibO0tDtNWiLprUhrzl5yRmOK5KxI9bFlwXZp5-qvggh5A5i8qFrb61t9hz6DJKVevoVKL1JiaiyU6Fp7zmUi_v9VF0ZeqinueYQlRw\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, we&#8217;ll add a U-shaped piece that will attach the razor blades.&nbsp;Lock the sketch plane to the front face of the cylinder by using the F3 button.&nbsp;To orient the design window to the plane, use the quick key Ctrl+H.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/t66RoENLJjHNV36jK4au1pzZKO93lbFlwF2l7_-RQ6Yb8Md_8zWCyHwif6CLxdJ1vo0jUYorF4dGFUmy8cYbnHzb30n05JxCtSlnI8HUz3XKoKoQgRo_FY-LBtQIDDopTqk81L8\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now sketch the geometry shown below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Select the created region and extend it to the opposite end of the shaft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now use the steering wheel to adjust the angle of the face.&nbsp;Start by selecting the top face of the connector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/GYCA_wQnwkKeIA-NxBOUy4SjvxcTiPiIs6kvnxZQdv6anpWd9kODh7QjQv0o3TiXn4S9shr2yfx3ngNioQxgJfWD_DODE5swYvGAP8TYxXgSFk2qudi6T-UxEQgKEc5yYXfV05k\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, to get the next level Steering Wheel, click the blue dot.&nbsp;Then position it over the midpoint of the start of the cylinder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/anQD0mJ6wNDOSiCzyDjYLuajK_2Fn67qAlYfopM7Nr4hVdbA3aBHMLUUqTx9MPB1mOrphRLgNEJBqzyN8KC-JnYxtFjCCyiGIMPgIm8wrhWD51p0AFCqFLSwDAM7a4uCXGVGFxw\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Select the torus and rotate it -5\u00b0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, we&#8217;ll put bosses on the edge of the tips of the U shape.&nbsp;The 1mm round should be 2mm long. Then create that cylinder on the opposite arm as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/-u2mFpnNdCbw4YN-b5th8nEWVtu3bxQxgqz7yYjJwX-XtXN6w6pANgSqIT6sfgljmioRF6xkXTTSN464Z5IAx9GYd1_tteAsBLipzz3HybT5kPlANl3HDjhH5xL0ADx1qS4Btl8\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, create a cut at the end of the handle.&nbsp;We&#8217;ll use the matching face on the handle to ensure this cut is the same as the handle cut.&nbsp;Using Project to Sketch will allow us to easily mirror the geometry to the connector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/bAVfkppuTQTKZmOMJOePDHueWQY3-jx5pF-F0xGY80FstT9IgWBX_EHlv75lNEu8QRffx5iufvL0mJy1hGZWctlfkQplLdJJjL2hvWqFS7OSjDvjBUlETYx2f9jO-aDWiwY_v8w\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Select the created region and extend it down to match the depth of the coordinating cut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/mezxnv9gEFv7HejysnBYPCauHumVkq6S3uIJJIZoSHmUBixwyFwDEdiQsG4So9NrMiEcIEKU30aVXGq3s0lgzyYhjaF8jdZuUFDKh4dQ38W4LhdRHTcjTwQbAXM0mh0JyGrAbkk\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Close and Return back to the assembly.&nbsp;Looking at the Connector, it appears too long.&nbsp;Let\u2019s shrink the length of the connector easily with synchronous technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/WDMxLag-ImtpophKtIaPM8-HEhEce3gpTFMgisY4SCOte813lgVWbU0ObI1VdJr1nXk0UvnzAUve73gx2Pva3KVgTIhkAlevyuDFWmX40wYOJtnk45tN2TEwQECsbj-GBbrQ0q4\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This change can be made at the assembly level without needing to go back into the part file.&nbsp;In the Select tool, be sure to choose Face Priority.
