{"id":7277,"date":"2015-02-27T14:44:34","date_gmt":"2015-02-27T22:44:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.plm.automation.siemens.com\/t5\/Simcenter-Blog\/Continuing-the-Femap-Symposium-Series-2015-in-Washington-DC\/ba-p\/292470"},"modified":"2026-03-26T05:59:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T09:59:49","slug":"continuing-the-femap-symposium-series-2015-in-washington-dc-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/simcenter\/continuing-the-femap-symposium-series-2015-in-washington-dc-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Continuing the Femap Symposium Series 2015 in Washington DC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P>The Femap Symposium Series 2015 continued last week with an event at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Dulles, VA co-hosted with Siemens channel partner, <a href=\"http:\/\/structures.aero\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Structural Design and Analysis<\/A>.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-inline\" style=\"width: 500px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/siemensplm.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/12867iD0C7CD273853F406\/image-size\/large?v=1.0&amp;px=999\" alt=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" title=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" \/><\/span><\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>In addition to seeing the latest capabilities in Femap 11.2, attendees also had the chance to hear a couple of user presentations, and learn more about Femap\u2019s API and free body postprocessing tool, not to mention walk around the museum and look at some of the fascinating exhibits.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Dr. Chris Mairs of Cardinal Engineering talked about using Femap\u2019s API in modeling ship piping and foundations.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-inline\" style=\"width: 500px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/siemensplm.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/12868iA55FC67531CFED74\/image-size\/large?v=1.0&amp;px=999\" alt=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" title=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" \/><\/span><\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Andrew Sayles and Thomas McQuigg of Orbital ATK Space Systems Group presented some examples of Femap use in spacecraft analysis.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-inline\" style=\"width: 500px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/siemensplm.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/12869iFEAF8F91066EA3E0\/image-size\/large?v=1.0&amp;px=999\" alt=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" title=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" \/><\/span><\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Russ Hilley, a Femap expert at SDA, gave a presentation about understanding free bodies in Femap.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-inline\" style=\"width: 500px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/siemensplm.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/12870iCA6B93F4F7C8ACDC\/image-size\/large?v=1.0&amp;px=999\" alt=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" title=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" \/><\/span><\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Eric Gustafson of SDA presented some examples of advanced API programming.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-inline\" style=\"width: 500px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/siemensplm.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/12871i6BFEBF168ED3AAD3\/image-size\/large?v=1.0&amp;px=999\" alt=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" title=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" \/><\/span><\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Femap developers Mark Sherman and Andy Haines updated everyone with the latest capabilities in Femap version 11.2.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-inline\" style=\"width: 500px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/siemensplm.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/12872i3418332B84161C84\/image-size\/large?v=1.0&amp;px=999\" alt=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" title=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" \/><\/span><\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>As usual, the event finished with a developer roundtable giving the attendees a chance to put questions directly to the Femap developers, represented on this occasion by Mark Sherman, Patrick Kriengsiri, Dan Hinkle, Bill Cobb, Chip Fricke, Andy Haines and Joe Brackin.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-inline\" style=\"width: 500px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/siemensplm.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/12873i26D2CA64503C4ED9\/image-size\/large?v=1.0&amp;px=999\" alt=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" title=\"Femap Symposium 2015 Washington DC\" \/><\/span><\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum was certainly a fantastic setting for this event, and a great way to continue the Femap Symposium Series 2015.
