What started as in-house developed solutions for vehicle design eventually evolved, and the use of more detailed models has made high-performance computing (HPC) a necessity.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-right\" style=\"width: 276px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.plm.automation.siemens.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/13582iDD5613D11CFE3AB2\/image-size\/large?v=1.0&amp;px=999\" alt=\"NVH analysis.jpg\" title=\"NVH analysis.jpg\" \/><\/span>\ufeffToday Mercedes-Benz runs more than 400 full-vehicle jobs a day for NVH \u201cwhere one run involves calculating 8,000 modes from a 30 MDOF matrix,\u201d says Dr. J\u00fcrgen Kohler, head of NVH CAE and Vehicle Concepts at Daimler AG.&nbsp; Those large simulation demands require powerful compute clusters and software to handle them.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Equally important is the time it takes to get results back from the analyses. \u201cIn the past, we had to wait several days,\u201d says Dr. Kohler. \u201cToday we are able to obtain results overnight.\u201d<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Mercedes-Benz uses NX Nastran&nbsp;for <a title=\"NVH analysis\" href=\"http:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/products\/nx\/for-simulation\/structural-analysis\/nvh.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">NVH and structural analysis<\/A>, while <a title=\"LMS Virtual.Lab\" href=\"http:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/products\/lms\/virtual-lab\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">LMS Virtual.Lab <\/A>handles chassis simulations.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Between the sheer magnitude of the simulations and the need for faster turnaround times, it\u2019s obvious why Mercedes-Benz requires high-performance computers for their CAE analyses. More powerful computers equate to \u201cmore robust simulations, more optimization runs, and more detailed models,\u201d Dr. Kohler says.
