{"id":3981,"date":"2018-09-03T06:09:12","date_gmt":"2018-09-03T13:09:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.plm.automation.siemens.com\/t5\/Simcenter-Blog\/Vehicle-Energy-Management-Farm\/ba-p\/522157"},"modified":"2026-03-26T05:56:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T09:56:13","slug":"vehicle-energy-management-farm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/simcenter\/vehicle-energy-management-farm\/","title":{"rendered":"Vehicle Energy Management Farm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P><SPAN>A car has many performance attributes and all are of equal importance.<\/SPAN><\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Sure &#8211; depending on priorities, one might find some of those attributes more interesting than the others, but mostly I believe we agree that a proper automobile needs to be safe, quiet, comfortable, tractable (so take the occasional sharp turns without flipping over), and accelerate at an un-frustrating pace.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Right?<\/P><br \/>\n<P>And it needs adaptive cruise control (that stuff is a blast!)<\/P><br \/>\n<P>\u2026 all the while not consuming too much energy, of course!<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Thing is: most carmakers are roughly there.<SPAN>&nbsp; <\/SPAN><\/P><br \/>\n<P>Today, your average car is a <EM>good<\/EM> car.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Regulations guarantee that any hazardous motorized DIY-projects are kept off the (main) streets and so customers are happy to base their purchasing behavior on economics and looks, rather than the performance attributes.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P><STRONG>With economics at the top of the list<\/STRONG>, (and also, perhaps, with the planet \u201crunning on empty\u201d\u2026), energy efficiency has become a 21<SUP>st<\/SUP>century priority.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>It\u2019s not like I\u2019m saying it trumps most of the other performance attributes, but really I am.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>George Orwell once put it more delicately I believe, saying something like \u201c<EM>All performance attributes are equal, but some are more equal than others<\/EM>\u201d.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-center\" style=\"width: 999px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/09\/Screen-Shot-2018-09-03-at-13.55.49-1.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2018-09-03 at 13.55.49.png\" title=\"Screen Shot 2018-09-03 at 13.55.49.png\" \/><\/span><BR \/><EM>Caption: \u201csure, autonomous drive is the new hot topic, but for now, energy efficiency is still the boss.\u201d<\/EM><\/P><br \/>\n<P>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>So let\u2019s turn serious for a minute now, because this actually is.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Most OEMs are massively investing in alternatives to fuel, on the one hand, and in overall vehicle energy management on the other. Some OEMs (you know which one I\u2019m talking about..) have even made the energy issue the singular purpose for their brand\u2019s existence.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>As a solid partner to the automotive industry, Siemens PLM Software is doing its part as well.<SPAN>&nbsp;<\/SPAN>Next to providing the very software that is crucial to frontload the energy topic to very start of the development process, it has built an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/global\/en\/products\/simulation-test\/facilities.html\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">exclusive energy-dedicated test bench<\/A><STRONG>&nbsp;<\/STRONG>in Villefranche, France.<SPAN>&nbsp; <\/SPAN>They are moreover making arrangements with several Chinese automotive customers, as well as the Chinese government, to build additional ones.<SPAN>&nbsp;<\/SPAN><\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Therefore, Siemens PLM Software, and more specifically the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/global\/en\/products\/simcenter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Simcenter<\/A><STRONG>&nbsp;<\/STRONG>portfolio, is uniquely positioned to assist OEMs with regards to technological innovation.
