{"id":24443,"date":"2021-03-03T10:33:35","date_gmt":"2021-03-03T15:33:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/simcenter\/?p=24443"},"modified":"2026-03-26T06:16:15","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T10:16:15","slug":"siemens-and-sustainable-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/simcenter\/siemens-and-sustainable-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Siemens and Sustainable Development"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/worldengineeringday.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development<\/a><\/strong> is celebrated annually since 2019 on March 4th, the anniversary of the founding of World Federation of Engineering Organizations (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wfeo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WFEO<\/a>) in 1968. It is a day where engineers and engineering solutions are celebrated each year for their important contributions to sustainable development for our day-to-day modern life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the heart of this day are the <a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/goals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/a> set in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These are goals adopted by all United Nations Member States, providing a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity, and are an urgent call for action by all countries in a global partnership for a sustainable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every time you plug a device into a power socket, you should ask yourself  \u201cIs this a clean power source?\u201d \u2014 chances are it isn&#8217;t. Ideally, the world would move forward and embrace greener options for energy sourcing, such as as wind, hydro, solar or nuclear energy. The current truth is, however, that across the world, less than a quarter of electricity comes from renewable sources, and the overuse of traditional energy sources only adds to the manmade climate problem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But not all is bleak.
