Service Lifecycle Management (SLM) is not a one-dimensional approach; rather, it includes a twofold strategy that is essential for optimizing efficiency and maximizing business potential. In the video below, Zvi Feuer, Senior VP of Digital Manufacturing, highlights the importance of integrated solutions in factory design and asset management. Before we get to the video, let’s discuss some challenges faced by manufacturers and operators.

The optimization of service operations is important for both manufacturers and operators. Whether it is referred to as Asset Management, Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO), or aftermarket service, the goal remains the same: to streamline processes and enhance key metrics such as uptime, first-time-fix rates, asset life extension, turnaround times, inventory costs reduction, and ultimately, customer satisfaction.

However, achieving these objectives is not without its challenges. Many organizations still face segmentation and disconnects between stakeholders due to data and processes that breed inefficiencies. Moreover, factors such as longer asset life, connected products, the growth of AI, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and analytics, increasing complexity, and evolving business relationships require a shift to an integrated approach to service, connected to a comprehensive digital twin.

Key challenges arise in this context:

Ensuring timely and accurate communication and implementation of required changes to stakeholders.

Achieving a clear understanding of service requirements for precise planning and forecasting.

Ensuring precise access and utilization of data, configuration, and historical information for fielded assets.

Key to turning service into a business

Zvi Feuer, Senior VP of Digital Manufacturing, discusses the twofold nature of Service Lifecycle Management. First, he elaborates the importance of integrated solutions to design factories and manage assets within them. Second, he highlights the significance of providing quality aftermarket support of serialized assets, leveraging partner relationships and an extended ecosystem for a comprehensive digital enterprise. In both scenarios, having comprehensive data is crucial for effective service delivery. Currently, a lack of sufficient data around the current configuration of the serialized asset often leads to inefficiencies, such as multiple trips by technicians, asset downtime, and increased costs. Furthermore, there’s a challenge in incorporating feedback from service experiences into product design for future improvements. The goal is to turn service into a profitable business opportunity by digitalizing processes and offering tailored packages to customers.

Siemens SLM Strategy

In response to these challenges, our approach to effective Service Lifecycle Management focuses on delivering a truly comprehensive Digital Twin that accurately and efficiently manages the product and its service-related data, and the product’s physical asset configuration. These asset configurations (think of the asset in the field) are tracked and kept in sync with the latest product knowledge and service requirements.
