Is The Job Market Getting Better?

By Jim Martens

The past few months I’ve visited several customers, and they have all had similar comments – their businesses are looking up.  The engineers are busy with new designs; some are looking to hire new EE’s and PCB designers.  Or, they are busy investigating new technologies to use in upcoming projects.  I was unable to visit a couple customers because they were too busy with their current projects.  (A common comment the past years was “we’re doing the same amount of work with less people” still seems true in many places today)

How is it at your company?  Are you looking to add people to your design teams this year?

It is important to stay up on the current technologies and tools available to you.  We at Mentor’s Board System Division are trying to help by providing educational webinars available 24/7 at www.pads.com/resources.  Here, you will find many webinars, by Mentor folks, as well as industry experts, discussing new technologies in signal and power integrity, manufacturing, thermal, etc., as well as PCB.  I encourage you to browse this site – I’m sure you will find something that is of interest to you.

Mentor is also helping the unemployed engineers and designers of our community expand their expertise in Mentor tools.  The Customer Support Division (CSD) through their training department offers the Displaced Worker Program, which offers complimentary training to unemployed design professionals.
