The race was at the Interlagos race track in Sao Paulo,which is the same place we hosted the 10<SUP>th<\/SUP> edition of the <A href=\"http:\/\/www.maratonadaeficiencia.com.br\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Maratona da Eficiencia Energetica<\/A> (Energy Efficiency Academic Marathon) over the summer.<BR \/><BR \/>Siemens is a sponsor of the the Brazilian Marathon competition and supplies teams with Solid Edge software. Teams use the software to design and compete for the best energy consumption on small one-person cars. The vehicles weight a minimum of 50 kilos and race at a minimum speed of 25 kilometers per hour.<BR \/><BR \/><A href=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-1.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><IMG class=\"wp-image-16914 alignnone\" alt=\"free cad software for students\" src=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-1.jpg\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" \/><\/A><BR \/><BR \/>What does the marathon competition have in common with Formula One? Of course it is not the speed and not even the budget. But students are setting their own records that will impact future Formula One drivers. Did you know that <A href=\"http:\/\/www.unioeste.br\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Unioeste<\/A> (a university on the west side of Parana) achieved a gasoline consumption of 736 kilometers per liter (Km\/L)? This record was established in 2011.<BR \/><BR \/>During the one week competition59 cars from 31 different academic institutions raced. Teams from seven Brazilian states &#8211; Sao Paulo (SP), Parana (PR), Santa Catarina (SC), Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Minas Gerais (MG), Bahia (BA) and Maranh\u00e3o (MA) -competed on three different categories: Ethanol, Gasoline and Electric.<BR \/><BR \/><A href=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-2.png\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><IMG class=\" wp-image-16917 alignnone\" alt=\"free cad software for students\" src=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-2.png\" width=\"407\" height=\"271\" \/><\/A><BR \/><BR \/>The 2013 Ethanol winner was the team from <A href=\"http:\/\/www.maua.br\/english\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Instituto Mau\u00e1 de Tecnologia<\/A> from S\u00e3o Paulo with the mark of 233 Km\/L. On the Gasoline category the winner team was also from Intituto Mau\u00e1 de Tecnologia with the mark of 406 Km\/L. And on the electric side the winner was <A href=\"http:\/\/www.eesc.usp.br\/portaleesc\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Escola de Engenharia de Sao Carlos<\/A> \u2013 SP with 42,492 KJoules.<BR \/><BR \/><A href=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-3.png\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><IMG class=\" wp-image-16919 alignnone\" alt=\"free cad software for students\" src=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-3.png\" width=\"216\" height=\"288\" \/><\/A><BR \/><BR \/>All the designs done on <A href=\"http:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/academic\/resources\/solid-edge\/index.shtml\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Solid Edge<\/A> were competing for the best project category. The evaluation criteria were the creation of a digital prototype, fidelity to the physical prototype and modeling steps.<BR \/><BR \/><A href=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-4.png\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><IMG class=\"wp-image-16920 alignnone\" alt=\"free cad software for students\" src=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-4-1024x571.png\" width=\"614\" height=\"343\" \/><\/A><BR \/><BR \/>On the third place we had the <A href=\"http:\/\/en.ufsc.br\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Federal University of Santa Catarina State<\/A> with the electrical car MILIWATT.<BR \/><BR \/><A style=\"font-size: 13px;line-height: 19px\" href=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-5.png\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><IMG class=\" wp-image-16921 alignnone\" alt=\"free cad software for students\" src=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-5.png\" width=\"469\" height=\"229\" \/><\/A><BR \/><BR \/>In second place was the <A href=\"http:\/\/www.ufrgs.br\/english\/home\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Sul<\/A> with the IFCAR, losing for just a few missing components.<BR \/><BR \/><A href=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-6.png\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><IMG class=\"size-full wp-image-16922 alignnone\" alt=\"free cad software for students\" src=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-6.png\" width=\"501\" height=\"295\" \/><\/A><BR \/><BR \/>And the winner once more was the Instituto Mau\u00e1 de Tecnologia from Sao Paulo taking the triple crown with their electric car Dedo Portugues:<BR \/><BR \/><A href=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-7.png\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><IMG class=\" wp-image-16923 alignnone\" alt=\"free cad software for students\" src=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2013\/11\/brazil-academic-marathon-pic-7.png\" width=\"509\" height=\"635\" \/><\/A><BR \/><BR \/><A href=\"http:\/\/www.formula1.com\/teams_and_drivers\/hall_of_fame\/282\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Emerson Fittipaldi<\/A>&nbsp;&#8211; the first and two time Brazilian worldwide Formula One champion helped celebrate the winners and give them their well-deserved prizes.<BR \/><BR \/>And how can a Formula One pilot not want to drive one of these designs?
