The whole domain of \u201cadditive manufacturing\u201d offers all kinds of new opportunities.&nbsp; It means super <A title=\"Printing An Airplane: Global Research Pushing Additive Technology to New Heights\" href=\"http:\/\/www.txchnologist.com\/2011\/printing-an-airplane-global-research-pushing-additive-technology-to-new-heights\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">lightweight aircraft parts<\/A>, <A title=\"83-year-old has jaw replaced by 3D-printed mandibl\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.co.uk\/news\/archive\/2012-02\/06\/3d-printed-jaw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">biomedical devices<\/A> customized to your body and cute toys for your kids.It even made the<A title=\"More design hobbyists, entrepreneurs use 3D printing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/tech\/news\/story\/2012-02-20\/3-d-printing\/53179186\/1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"> front page of USAToday<\/A>.<BR \/><BR \/>We\u2019ve hooked up with<A title=\"Stratasys 3D Printing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stratasys.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"> 3D printing expert Stratasys<\/A> for a little product research.&nbsp; I\u2019ve got a <A title=\"Stratasys uPrint SE Plus\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uprint3dprinting.com\/3d-printers\/3d-printer-uprintplus.aspx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Stratasys uPrint SE Plus<\/A> in my office and it is one cool machine (I\u2019m not sure what the SE stands for but for the next few months I&#8217;m going to say \u201c<A title=\"What is Solid Edge\" href=\"http:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/products\/velocity\/solidedge\/overview\/index.shtml\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Solid Edge\u201d<\/A> \ud83d\ude42 ) My office neighbor commented that he has never seen so much traffic around my office before.<BR \/><BR \/>So why the excitement? Well, some of it is that we are an office full of engineers and industrial designers. This is a bit like software developers being given the latest mobile devices to research. However, the real reason is far more practical.<BR \/><BR \/>We know that <A title=\"Wikipedia Additive manufacturing\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Additive_manufacturing\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">additive manufacturing<\/A> is becoming increasingly important to our customers. Additive manufacturing can be very low cost for small manufacturing runs.&nbsp; Prices continue to drop making it much more accessible. It is great for prototypes.
