Our annual event for Solid Edge users in the UK returned to Silverstone this year. Around 250 Solid Edge users came together to network, find out about Solid Edge ST8<\/A>, and participate in hands-on training classes. Silverstone UTC<\/A> (University Technical College) is a new school for 14-18 year olds and offers a more technical education to nurture future engineers. Situated right next to the Silverstone race track (where the British F1 Grand Prix was held a few days earlier) it is natural that \u201chigh performance engineering\u201d is a focus for them. It was encouraging to learn that all the students have access to Solid Edge to complete their design projects, a great example of the Solid Edge academic program<\/A> in action.

Solid Edge University UK was hosted by Prion Cutting Edge and Majenta PLM at Silverstone UTC on July 8th 2015<\/DIV> <\/DIV>

I talked to several Solid Edge designers who were enthusiastic about the opportunity to meet with fellow users, learn about the latest developments in Solid Edge, and find out about related software solutions. It was good to hear that some of the new technologies that we introduced at last year\u2019s event, such as mobile access to CAD<\/A> using tablets like the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, are being deployed by our users and they are seeing real benefits by being able to keep up to date with their design projects while traveling. I also heard from customers who were already using the latest Solid Edge release \u2013 ST8. They had positive comments about the new Design Intent options<\/A> that speed product design tasks, and the new tool that helps users locate and retrieve linked CAD files that may have been moved and are missing in action. A product showcase included the Armourdillo robot from Ross Robotics<\/A> that we are featuring in our ST8 materials, and several of our technology partners including CAMWorks, Zuken, 3DConnexion and Misco were demonstrating how their solutions integrate with Solid Edge. A new solution for me was the 3D scanning and reverse engineering capabilities demonstrated by Physical Digital<\/A>.
