You may remember <A href=\"http:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/about_us\/newsroom\/press\/press_release.cfm?Component=25355&amp;ComponentTemplate=822\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">we acquired Geolus<\/A> about three years ago. I wanted to catch up with Erwin to learn a little more about why and how companies use shape (or geometry) search vs. traditional attribute search. Here\u2019s our video interview and the slides to his presentation.<BR \/><BR \/><A href=\"http:\/\/siemens.pmhclients.com\/images\/uploads\/WindowsLiveWriterPLMConnectionGeolusS_B33AVideo_4_0_00_00-02_2.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><IFRAME width=\"425\" height=\"355\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/4KaPylyMM0c\"><\/IFRAME><\/A><BR \/><BR \/>There appears to be some significant cost and time savings from the ability to reuse parts that you couldn\u2019t find in traditional attribute searching. Erwin shared research from Aberdeen that noted:<BR \/><\/P><BLOCKQUOTE>\u201cWith the annual carrying cost of between $4,500 and $23,000 per item for the introduction of a new part number, duplicate part proliferation is an area of known cost exposure. He demonstrated these in the context of NX and also Teamcenter.<\/SPAN><BR \/><BR \/>He also shared with me that he had just learned synchronous technology in NX at the event. He was taught it in the morning and showed it in the afternoon for one of his use cases.
