There is a growing entrepreneurial and maker movement as part of the country\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chinadaily.com.cn\/bizchina\/2015-05\/19\/content_20760528.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Made in China 2025<\/A> plan. I was most impressed by what is happening in education. Let me share three stories with you.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>A dynamic bridge between engineering, education and manufacturing<\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>Dr. Zhang Beike from the Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) gave us a tour of a training center that teaches project lifecycle management.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-center\" style=\"width: 999px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2019\/09\/20151208_140250-2.jpg\" alt=\"20151208_140250.jpg\" title=\"20151208_140250.jpg\" \/><span class=\"lia-inline-image-caption\" onclick=\"event.preventDefault();\">Beijing University of Chemical Technology<\/span><\/span>The center uses Siemens digital factory technology to teach virtual to real production. Students test out various real-world what-if scenarios to strengthen their use and understand of technology to solve problems. The cup challenges students in five categories \u2013 design and research, logical control, motion control, engineering innovation and hardware development. It was great to meet Gustavo Cespedes, executive vice president of GM China\u2019s SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture and Charon Morgan, director of GM China Engineering, and learn more about GM\u2019s manpower needs in China.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The Confederation of Chinese Industry recently noted that more than 90 percent of engineering graduates are employable, but over the next 10 years, there will be more than a 500,000 gap in the automotive engineering talent pipeline.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>Developing an automotive pipeline of talent<\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>It was an honor to <a href=\"http:\/\/pacepartners.org\/wpindex.php\/archives\/1740\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">join GM to announce Hunan University as a PACE academic partner<\/A>. They now have our digitalization software integrated in their curriculum to develop a stronger pipeline of engineering and digital manufacturing talent for the automotive industry. See my colleague <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.plm.automation.siemens.com\/t5\/Academic-News\/Hunan-University-Opens-PACE-Center-and-becomes-program-as-Fifth\/ba-p\/326117\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hilary Lu\u2019s report on our community<\/A> from the event where she highlights one student comment:<\/P><br \/>\n<P>\u201cTeamwork globally is improving our ability, it bring us in real world during campus life.\u201d<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Hunan\u2019s graduates will be highly trained in the same software that drives innovation at 29 of the 30 top automakers around the world. I was especially pleased to see so many young women pursing technology degrees.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-center\" style=\"width: 734px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2019\/09\/pace-hunan-lab-1.jpg\" alt=\"pace hunan lab.jpg\" title=\"pace hunan lab.jpg\" \/><\/span><\/P><br \/>\n<P>The China PACE schools came together for a workshop and to share best practices and present the results of a solar car project they had worked on over the last year. It is one of the unique aspects of the PACE program &#8211; schools collaborate together for innovative solutions vs. each competing with each other.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-center\" style=\"width: 881px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2019\/09\/pace-china-school-workshop-1.jpg\" alt=\"pace china school workshop.jpg\" title=\"pace china school workshop.jpg\" \/><\/span><\/P><br \/>\n<P>While visiting Hunan, we had the chance to tour <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yuelu_Academy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Yeulu Academy<\/A>. It was a nice juxtaposition to learn the history of a school that began more than a thousand years ago and has developed into Hunan University with advanced engineering and manufacturing technology in use today. There is not doubt they are developing excellent engineers at Hunan.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-center\" style=\"width: 999px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2019\/09\/20151210_Yuelu-academy-1.jpg\" alt=\"20151210_Yuelu academy.jpg\" title=\"20151210_Yuelu academy.jpg\" \/><\/span><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-center\" style=\"width: 999px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2019\/09\/20151210_135503-1.jpg\" alt=\"20151210_135503.jpg\" title=\"20151210_135503.jpg\" \/><\/span><\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>Developing smart students through smart factories <\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>We just published a very interesting case study on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/about_us\/success\/case_study.cfm?Component=244141&amp;ComponentTemplate=1481\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Hangzhou Dianzi University<\/A> (HDU) in China. HDU has launched an Industry 4.0 factory lab with a strong four-year curriculum integrated with NX CAD\/CAM, MCD, Teamcenter and&nbsp; SIMATIC IT.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-left\" style=\"width: 310px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2019\/09\/hdu-case-study-1.png\" alt=\"hdu case study.png\" title=\"hdu case study.png\" \/><\/span>HDU\u2019s smart factory program is dedicated to implementing the China Manufacturing 2025 strategy for acceler\u00adating the transformation of China from a big manufacturer to a strong manufacturer.
