The design and rendering won him the best student image of the year and earned him a spot in in our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/campaigns\/image-gallery\/index.cfm?action=wwwplm_content_page_template.pagedefault&amp;yearvalue=2012&amp;filter=bestinclass\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">2012 calendar<\/A>.<BR \/><BR \/>\u201cI\u2019ve always liked taking things apart and rebuilding them,\u201d Zach says. \u201cI enjoy seeing how stuff works.\u201d<BR \/><BR \/>Thus he was destined to study mechanical engineering ;-).<!--more--><BR \/><BR \/>&nbsp;<A rel=\"attachment wp-att-8364 nofollow noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.industrysoftware.automation.siemens.com\/blog\/2012\/03\/01\/future-engineer-series-meet-zach-penland\/penland_zach_skullcandyheadphones-med\/\"><IMG class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8364\" src=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2012\/03\/Penland_Zach_SkullcandyHeadphones-med.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"504\" height=\"378\" \/><\/A><BR \/><BR \/>Zach began using Solid Edge in an Intro to CAD class at UA Huntsville. The headphones were his first project. He reversed engineered them.<BR \/><BR \/>I asked Zach if he had any other interesting designs or products he\u2019s built. He has designed and built a custom Xbox 360 case, a laser that lights a match, a homemade remote control rock crawler. Off-computer, he is also rebuilding a VW beetle. But perhaps his most interesting project:<BR \/><\/P><BLOCKQUOTE>\u201cA bar stool go-kart.\u201d<\/BLOCKQUOTE><BR \/>Yep, you read right \u2013 he put an engine under a bar stool years ago. He still uses it, displaying it at recent fraternity car show.
