{"id":1156,"date":"2010-09-21T02:20:00","date_gmt":"2010-09-21T09:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.plm.automation.siemens.com\/t5\/Siemens-PLM-Corporate-Blog\/Manufacturing-Production-with-ThyssenKrupp\/ba-p\/334486"},"modified":"2026-03-26T11:05:33","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T15:05:33","slug":"manufacturing-production-with-thyssenkrupp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/news\/manufacturing-production-with-thyssenkrupp\/","title":{"rendered":"Manufacturing Production with ThyssenKrupp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P>At the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.siemens.com\/tecnomatix\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><\/A><a href=\"http:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/campaigns\/dmsymposium\/?stc=usiia420436\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Digital Manufacturing Symposium<\/A> which was co-located with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imts.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">IMTS<\/A> in Chicago, Marcelo Gracci from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drauznothelfer.com\/eng\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">ThyssenKrupp<\/A> discussed their use of robotics simulation and the concept of <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.industrysoftware.automation.siemens.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/13\/increase-manufacturing-productivity-of-automated-production-lines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">virtual commissioning<\/A>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drauznothelfer.com\/eng\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">ThyssenKrupp<\/A> does the manufacturing engineering and build of complex automated production cells, like they are used in the automotive industry.<BR \/><\/P><P style=\"text-align: center\"><A href=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2010\/09\/ThyssenKrupp_Marcelo.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><IMG class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border-width: 0px\" src=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2010\/09\/ThyssenKrupp_Marcelo_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"ThyssenKrupp_Marcelo\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/A><\/P><BR \/>Marcelo highlighted the results of a pilot project they made with a major automotive OEM in Brazil and how it transitioned to production. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drauznothelfer.com\/eng\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">ThyssenKrupp<\/A> Brazil started a year ago with with this project. After the successful first project <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drauznothelfer.com\/eng\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">ThyssenKrupp<\/A> extend the project scope and included the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Programmable_logic_controller\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">PLC<\/A> (programmable logical controller) in the simulation. This is known as <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.industrysoftware.automation.siemens.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/13\/increase-manufacturing-productivity-of-automated-production-lines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Virtual Commissioning<\/A>.<BR \/><BR \/>The issues he faces during the engineering process are multiple ones: Is the equipment positioned correctly? Does the cell works as planned? Does the devices operate as designed?<BR \/><P style=\"text-align: center\"><!--more--><A href=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2010\/09\/ThyssenKrupp.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><IMG class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border-width: 0px\" src=\"http:\/\/community.plm.automation.siemens.com\/legacyfs\/online\/wordpress\/images\/2010\/09\/ThyssenKrupp_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"ThyssenKrupp\" width=\"444\" height=\"334\" \/><\/A><\/P><BR \/>Solving these issues on the shop floor are costly and might lead to line stoppages without notice. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drauznothelfer.com\/eng\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">ThyssenKrupp<\/A> is using the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/products\/tecnomatix\/robotics_automation\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Tecnomatix Robotics and Automation Planning solution<\/A> to simulate the whole cell including robots and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Programmable_logic_controller\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">PLCs<\/A> upfront to the start of production. This saves time and costs later on the shop floor.<BR \/><BR \/>Today a bigger group of engineers is using the solution on a daily basis. Marcelo gave an outlook that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drauznothelfer.com\/eng\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">ThyssenKrupp<\/A> will extend the use of the solution in the next year to other projects and customers.
