Explore digital transformation in A&D and marine at the 2025 Dayton Digital Transformation Summit

Leaders in artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation and cyber-physical systems (CPS) are heading to Dayton, Ohio for the 2025 Dayton Digital Transformation Summit, May 6-8, 2025 at the Sinclair Conference Center. If you want deeper insights into what’s next for digital innovation in the marine, aerospace and defense sectors, this is a great event to attend – and representatives from Siemens in both Aerospace & Defense and Marine industries will be presenting a session on ‘Digital Transformation Reshaping Industries.’

Increase your understanding of digital transformation maturity

What is digital transformation maturity? At Siemens, it’s defined as how extensively a company has integrated digital processes into its operations to shorten time to market, minimize risks and ultimately reduce costs. Many shipbuilding organizations have started configuring and connecting their data, but our goal is to move our customers even further along their transformation. There are five basic steps:

Siemens digital transformation maturity framework

The first step in this framework is configure, which involves transitioning from document-based workflows to model-based systems. This means managing product data in a way that ensures all relevant information is centrally stored and easily accessible throughout the product lifecycle.

Next is the connect phase, where companies bridge their data across multiple domains, creating a single source of truth for the entire product lifecycle. This includes connecting data across teams, ensuring that all stakeholders are working with the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Automate is the third phase and lies at the core of digital transformation and AI. Automation frees engineers and production workers from tedious, repetitive tasks, allowing them to focus on more valuable and creative aspects of their roles.

In the generate phase, companies can leverage advanced technologies like generative design to explore multiple design alternatives based on predefined parameters. Engineers and planners can now quickly evaluate various yard layouts, equipment configurations and material flows to optimize ship construction alongside design and engineering.

Finally, the optimize phase involves utilizing the comprehensive digital twin and other advanced tools to refine and perfect designs. This phase closes the loop on digital transformation by evaluating multiple alternatives against KPIs and using simulations to predict how a product will perform before it is physically built.

Walk with experts through digital transformation in A&D and Marine

The three-day Digital Transformation Summit will focus on AI, digital transformation, next-gen cyber-physical systems, and cross-sector collaboration. Aligning with those themes, Siemens is hosting a breakout session, ‘Digital Transformation Reshaping Industries’ on Wednesday, May 7 from 2:45-4:15 pm. Tariq Nadeem, director of aerospace and defense industry solutions, and Pat McFadden, director of marine industry solutions, will speak to these industries and demonstrate how following the digital transformation framework above is empowering manufacturers – from lifecycle management to design and engineering, to smart manufacturing and finally to simulated testing and verification.
