Empowering clean energy production through digital transformation with Insights Hub

Digital transformation has become a cornerstone of operational excellence in pursuing energy solutions. TotalEnergies, a global integrated energy company that produces and markets energies, is leveraging data-driven insights to enhance operations in producing cleaner fuels and energy. By partnering with Siemens and adopting Insights Hub, TotalEnergies has achieved significant advancements in operational efficiency, cost savings and predictive maintenance.

A shift from traditional to digitalized systems

Digital transformation at TotalEnergies begins with examining workflows to identify opportunities for digitalization and improvement. Initially, the team developed an internal application for monitoring time-series data. In the search for a robust platform, TotalEnergies adopted Insights Hub Monitor, marking a significant evolution from traditional supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. Insights Hub offered far more capabilities in extracting, analyzing, and utilizing data to improve its operations.

Improved operational visibility and faster issue resolution

TotalEnergies initially focused on connecting fueling stations to monitor time-series data. Now, the team is leveraging the platform for more complex use cases, such as detecting maintenance issues earlier and optimizing station operations.

“Our aim now is to use technical process expertise, combined with Insights Hub, to detect complex issues earlier and optimize station operations,” says David Dowling, Manager, Data & Connectivity at TotalEnergies. “We’re focusing on reducing maintenance costs and driving operational efficiency at a deeper level.”

Significant cost savings through remote analysis

One of Insights Hub’s most impactful benefits is its ability to analyze data remotely, significantly reducing the need for on-site maintenance visits. This has saved TotalEnergies’ customers between 40% and 60% on costs related to deploying on-site mechanics.

“The ability to remotely analyze the data and figure out what is causing problems has delivered substantial cost savings for our customers.”
