{"id":832,"date":"2017-12-12T13:12:19","date_gmt":"2017-12-12T20:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.mentor.com\/xpedition\/?p=832"},"modified":"2026-03-27T09:29:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T13:29:12","slug":"behind-the-tla-winners-aselsan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/electronic-systems-design\/2017\/12\/12\/behind-the-tla-winners-aselsan\/","title":{"rendered":"Behind the TLA Winners: Aselsan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>This is the third in a series of blog posts showcasing the winning designs from the 27<sup>th<\/sup> Annual PCB Technology Leadership Awards.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The runner-up in the Computers, Blade &amp; Servers, Memory Systems category is<strong> <em>Aselsan <\/em><\/strong>from Turkey.<\/p>\n<p>Their design for a high-performance multi-processor computer for cloud computing, data centers and supercomputers included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>32 lanes of 19Gpbs connections between CPUs and GPUs across the board<\/li>\n<li>Sockets for 2 CPUs, 4 GPUs, and 32 DDR4 DIMMs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-836\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2017\/12\/Blog-TLA-Aselsan-520x441.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"520\" height=\"441\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Design team:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ahmet Erol, Fulya A\u011firnas, Fatih Say, Emine \u00d6zer T\u00fcrkay, Mustafa Algan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Design flow used:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Xpedition\u00ae Enterprise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Design challenges:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Power requirements: <\/strong>Design had to be capable of supplying power up to 3000W. The Power Distribution Networks included high currents up to 250A<\/li>\n<li><strong>Power integrity: <\/strong>Extensive power integrity analysis was required to validate the Power Distribution Networks (PDN\u2019s)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule:<\/strong> Team Layout (concurrent layout by multiple designers) was used to facilitate completion of the design within the required timeframe<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Judge\u2019s comments:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cBIG board! Short schedule!\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201c3000 Watt power nightmare\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWell done! A lot of layers \u201c<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About the Technology Leadership Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Started in 1988, this program is the longest running competition of its kind in the EDA industry. In fact it is the industry\u2019s only award where design teams using Mentor\u2019s solutions receive recognition by <a href=\"https:\/\/mentor-tla.secure-platform.com\/a\/page\/Judges?cmpid=9049\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an independent panel of experts<\/a> for overcoming the most extreme challenges facing PCB design teams today. Just look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/mentor-tla.secure-platform.com\/a\/page\/Past_Winners\/2015_Winners?cmpid=9049\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winning designs from previous years<\/a> to get a sense of the types of technologies and industry segments that are represented in this program.
