{"id":7062,"date":"2020-01-21T08:05:27","date_gmt":"2020-01-21T15:05:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.mentor.com\/jimmartens\/?p=7062"},"modified":"2026-03-27T09:34:31","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T13:34:31","slug":"partquest-updates-part-2-symbol-creator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/electronic-systems-design\/2020\/01\/21\/partquest-updates-part-2-symbol-creator\/","title":{"rendered":"PartQuest Updates Part 2 \u2013 Symbol Creator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With a recent update to PartQuest, users now have direct access to the PartQuest builders, including the <strong>Symbol Builder<\/strong>. <em>Be sure to check out <strong>Part 1<\/strong> of this blog series where I introduce the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pads.com\/blog\/post\/partquest-updates-part-1-part-creator-1840598b-06fd-4799-be80-0cd57bcf77c1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Part Creator<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Clicking on the <strong>Create Symbol<\/strong> button from the PartQuest homepage brings you to the <strong>My Symbols<\/strong> area of your PartQuest account.\u00a0 This shows all of the symbols you have created in your account, including symbols that are associated with Parts.\u00a0 To create a new symbol, click the <strong>Create Symbol<\/strong> button in the My Symbols area.\u00a0 Symbols can also be created when searching a part in PartQuest, and under <strong>More<\/strong> selecting <strong>Choose Symbol.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7337 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2020\/01\/Create-Symbol.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"147\" height=\"139\" \/><\/h3>\n<p>When creating a symbol users have the option to choose one of the 76 Standard Symbol templates, or to create their own symbol.<\/p>\n<p>If you create a custom symbol, a block symbol will be created and a terminal list will need to be entered manually, or by uploading a CSV file.\u00a0 As pins are added to the list, they are added to the graphical symbol.\u00a0 Multiple pins can be selected for group editing, or group deletion.\u00a0 The location of the pins can be easily manipulated by clicking and dragging the pins in the Symbol Preview area.<\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/nSRtlAXoiAk\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/nSRtlAXoiAk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/nSRtlAXoiAk noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7063 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2019\/11\/SymbolCreator-520x293.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"520\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Templates speed up the symbol creation process for standard parts, because the user will start with a pre populated Terminal Pin list with information that would be typical of that particular part, not to mention the symbol graphic won\u2019t be a block.\u00a0 Some of the templates have optional pins that can be toggled on or off depending on the type of device you are making the symbol for.\u00a0 Users just need to update terminal names, if desired.<\/p>\n<p>Check out this video to see the process in action<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/nSRtlAXoiAk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/nSRtlAXoiAk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7342\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2020\/01\/PQ2-520x293.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"467\" height=\"263\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7059 \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2019\/11\/PartQuestLogo-520x130.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"312\" height=\"78\" \/><\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With a recent update to PartQuest, users now have direct access to the PartQuest builders, including the Symbol Builder.
