Let\u2019s examine 4 additional challenges wire manufacturers face as they strive to innovate at the speed of business and outpace their competitors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Going global <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Electrification can\u2019t happen in isolation \u2013 it involves the seamless collaboration with multiple stakeholders across various geographic boundaries, necessitating a \u201cdesign anywhere, manufacture anywhere\u201d approach. This not only requires effective and efficient data sharing, but manufacturers must build in time to accommodate offshore manufacturing and shipping schedules, because parts may travel overseas by boat, which can take months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rising material costs<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The price of copper \u2013 the primary component in wire harnesses \u2013 has risen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.institutionalinvestor.com\/article\/b1xs6f3jvrrcjg\/five-reasons-copper-prices-have-risen#:~:text=Copper%20prices%20have%20risen%20125,have%20contributed%20to%20copper&#039;s%20rally.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">125% since March, 2020<\/a>, reaching $5.02 per pound on March 6, 2022 \u2013 the highest price recorded in history. This is one variable that\u2019s beyond the wire harness manufacturer\u2019s control.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Labor shortage<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As they grapple with tight budgets, manufactuers may find it increasingly difficult to bring skilled engineers on board. Regardless of the availability of skilled labor, they must still meet time-to-market objectives. This also has implications for change management \u2013 the ability to quickly implement changes throughout the design lifecycle, verify design iterations, and get the final design to manufacturing quickly requires a high degree of automation, which, for many OEMs, doesn\u2019t exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Integration and standardization <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As new tools become available, they must integrate seamlessly with the existing technology stack.
