How to succeed in aerospace with Siemens’ Xcelerator–watch one customer’s journey

By Abbie Owen

Firefly Aerospace Inc., headquartered in Cedar Park, Texas, is a diversified end-to-end space transportation company aiming to provide convenient access to space. The company not only has plans to expand around the country, but also to make it to orbit rapidly.

The company’s lead aerospace design engineer recently shared the fascinating journey Firefly has been on as a startup using Siemens’ Xcelerator portfolio in a webinar.

Harness schedule — a critical component of an aerospace project

When preparing for their first launch, Firefly used legacy applications for harness design and documentation. Firefly engineers faced the challenge of data being stored in several different locations which could lead to lost data. Additionally, the level of manual input left more room for error as they transitioned between different tools. They needed a solution to help them automate manual processes, increase collaboration, organize their data and meet their schedule.

To improve their processes, they selected Siemens’ Xcelerator portfolio to support harness design and documentation for their spacecraft and rockets.

Moving through the process with Siemens’ support

The Firefly team decided to implement Siemens’ Capital™ software with an NX™ software and Teamcenter® software integration. Using these solutions enabled the Firefly team to organize all their information. From here, they established a collaborative process for developing their vehicles.

This cooperation between Firefly and Siemens helped Firefly realize the following benefits:

  • Improved collaboration
  • Minimized the amount of harnesses
  • Increased accuracy with automation
  • Reduced rework due to manual input
