While this was Siemens first year as a sponsor of this fantastic event, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.robonation.org\/competition\/robosub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Robosub<\/A> has been challenging students to build Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) for 21 years!<\/P><br \/>\n<P>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lia-vid-container video-embed-right\">\n<div id=\"lia-vid-NobGI1ZzE6PNaLyRDE6nT2KtPtaSP7Qiw400h225r956\" class=\"lia-video-ooyala-player-container\"><\/div>\n<p><script>LITHIUM.OoyalaPlayer.addVideo('https:\/\/player.ooyala.com\/static\/v4\/production\/', 'lia-vid-NobGI1ZzE6PNaLyRDE6nT2KtPtaSP7Qiw400h225r956', 'NobGI1ZzE6PNaLyRDE6nT2KtPtaSP7Qi', {\"pcode\":\"sxdjkxOluLl_gSQrV57FiGraFE2-\",\"playerBrandingId\":\"ODI0MmQ3NjNhYWVjODliZTgzY2ZkMDdi\",\"width\":\"400px\",\"height\":\"225px\"});<\/script><a class=\"video-embed-link\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.plm.automation.siemens.com\/t5\/video\/gallerypage\/video-id\/NobGI1ZzE6PNaLyRDE6nT2KtPtaSP7Qi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(view in My Videos)<\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/P><br \/>\n<P>Student teams really hit the jackpot with their designs! The vehicles had to find their way to the entrance, Shoot Craps (touch buoys), Play the slots (manipulation\/torpedoes), Play Roulette (drop markers), and Cash In (retrieve objects, surface, move\/release objects). Along the way, there were two locations to purchase extra chips for teams who needed a little extra luck!<\/P><br \/>\n<P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-left\" style=\"width: 400px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2019\/09\/women-1.jpg\" alt=\"women.jpg\" title=\"women.jpg\" \/><span class=\"lia-inline-image-caption\" onclick=\"event.preventDefault();\">All-women team from Texas A&amp;M<\/span><\/span><\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Because these highly complex vehicles require so much work, the most successful teams have found it beneficial to divide their efforts into functional areas covering Mechanical, Electrical, Software and Project Management \u2013 exactly like their counterparts in industry might do.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-right\" style=\"width: 300px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2019\/09\/IMG_3763-1.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3763.jpg\" title=\"IMG_3763.jpg\" \/><\/span><\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The teams compete for cash prizes as well as recognition in several areas. 2018\u2019s winners are:<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>1st Place:&nbsp;Harbin Engineering University &#8212; $7,000<BR \/> 2nd Place:National University of Singapore&nbsp;&#8212;&nbsp;$6,000<BR \/> 3rd Place: \u00c9cole de Technologie Sup\u00e9rieure &#8212; $2,500<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Best First-Time Entry:University of Maryland, Baltimore County &#8212; $500<BR \/> Sportsmanship: \u00c9cole de Technologie Sup\u00e9rieure &#8212; $500<BR \/> Best Knowledge Transfer:&nbsp;Texas A&amp;M University &#8212; $500<BR \/> Resource Sharing:Washington State University &#8212; $500<BR \/> Perseverance: University of Puerto Rico at Mayag\u00fcez &#8212; $500<BR \/> Partnership:San Diego Robotics 101 &#8212; $500<BR \/> Best Video:University of Alberta &#8212; $500<BR \/> Best Presenter:The Ohio State University &#8212; $500<BR \/> Best Use of Simulation:Wroclaw University of Science and Technology &#8212; $500<BR \/> IEEE Innovation Award:Oregon Institute of Technology &#8211; $300<\/P><br \/>\n<P>You can watch all four+ hours of the finals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5TZxSi5iT6k&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">here<\/A>!<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Congratulations to all of the winning teams.
