The purpose of the meeting was to to get the concept of the Digital Twin so educators can consider how to better serve their students with new curricula. Siemens outlined its digital twin vision and the fundamental role that digitalization plays in Industry 4.0 and challenged universities to prepare graduates for this new environment.

Guests were invited on a Digital Twin tour of interactive kiosks to learn the role Siemens tools play in the digital enterprise, from product design to production. Attendees saw how the digital thread throughout the entire process. Attendees were able to see how Siemens tools provide the required functionality to remove barriers and merge engineering disciplines that can connect operations from the shop floor to the enterprise level of a manufacturing organization. Attendees could also see an automation controlled conveyor system and virtual commissioning system. This provided a hands-on experience in bringing digital and real production together.

“The DMDII event was really terrific! It was incredibly helpful to see the Digital Thread end-to-end. First in software and then in a physical mock up. I saw several new technologies since the Institute is working with cutting edge smart factory equipment. I would love to get my undergraduate students to see it and I think they would get as excited about manufacturing as our Siemens tour guides were!
